My Annual Salute To Shark Week

There are a couple of things I really  look forward to this time of year.  Shark Week 🦈 is one of them.  The other, is that it’s a great excuse to make some kind of a classic tiki cocktail 🍹that reminds me of Shark Week.  This year, it’s the delicious and oh-so-fruity  Blue Hawaiian Classic, Tiki Cocktail.  I have to admit, put a few tropical ingredients (and some rum) into a cocktail glass, top it with a garnish of fruit and a little umbrella and I’m a happy camper swimmer.

When I was a semi-little kid, the great classic movie JAWS came out.  During that summer, my family took a short trip to Catalina Island for a few days.  My brother and I were swimming out to the raft in the usually calm swimming area and beach.  When I was about half way to the raft, which seemed like a mile, my brother screamed SHARK!!!  I knew he was all about this kind of terror fake-out, but the fear that filled my being was unbelievable.  You can’t imagine how fast I made it to the raft 🏊🏻‍♀️, not to mention how quickly I was able to hurl myself onto the platform.

I can’t imagine anything more frightening than a shark (or anything) lurking under me or near me while I am swimming.  I’m sure most of the allure of Shark Week is just the terror of thinking of being hunted and eaten…….But no, I can’t look away during Shark Week.

Blue Hawaiian – The Classic Tiki Cocktail 🍹

Into a cocktail shaker, filled 1/2 with ice, add  2 ounces of light rum, 3/4 ounce Blue Curacao, 2 ounces of pineapple juice and 3/4 ounce of Creme De Coconut (Like Coco Lopez) and 1/2 ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice.  Shake at least 30 seconds until the shaker is very cold.

Strain into a hurricane glass, filled with crushed ice.  Garnish with a pineapple wedge 🍍and a umbrella.

Want to make it a Blue Hawaiian Shark Attack?  Drop a Luxardo Maraschino Cherry on top….Splat!
