So Cherry π Delicious!
I’m winding down on cocktail week here at BSSS with this unbelievably delicious and simple cocktail. A Bitter Sweet Cherry π Whisky Sour Cocktail. All the cocktail recipes I share are are usually old classics or spins on βem. They are usually really easy to make and not filled with ingredients that you’ll have a hard time finding. I also try to share recipes for drinks that you can make easily at home and won’t need to spend a fortune by having to purchase expensive and unusual ingredients, you’ll only use on rare occassions. Just totally simple and delicious homemade DRANKS!
There are a few necessities to keep in a home bar and Luxardo Maraschino π Cherries are a must. And that means, you can make this drink by tomorrow night if you’re not willing to venture out to your local specialty store today.
I use these gorgeous, sinfully delicious cherries and the thick, sweet syrup they’re swimming in, in so many cocktail recipes. This is one of my favorites. A Bitter Cherry Whisky Sour. Here’s how I make it.
The Shake Up
This is another fun cocktail that’s meant to be shaken and served straight up. The recipe calls for an egg white. I wouldn’t be afraid to use an egg white in a cocktail. The odds of getting sick from an egg white is extremely low. But, if you are queezed by the thought or you’re vegan, just skip it. The drink will be lacking a bit of the luxurious silky and creaminess the egg white gives the drink, but it will still be delicious. There really are no substitutes for a raw π₯egg white. Pasteurized egg whites are heated to such a temperature that it virtually eliminates the egg whites frothing ability.
Into a cocktail shaker without any ice, add 2 ounces of your favorite bourbon, 1 ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Add 1/2 ounce of the syrup from the Luxardo Maraschino Cherries and 1/2 ounce of simple syrup, 2 shakes of Angostura bitters or cherry bitters and 1 egg white from a small fresh egg. Shake vigorously, at least 30 seconds. This is called a dry shake. It will give the best frothing to the egg. Next, add ice to the shaker to about 1/2 full. Then shake again for another 30 seconds. Serve straight up into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a Luxardo Cherry or two and Bob’s your uncle. Cheers!
Notes
If you're not comfortable using raw egg whites, this drink is still delicious without them. Pasteurized egg whites sold in cartons generally do not work well as they have been heated past the point of being able to provide a good froth.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces bourbon
- 1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1/2 ounce Luxardo Maraschino Cherry Syrup or substitute Cherry Brandy or Cherry Liqueur
- 1 egg white
- 2 drops Angostura bitters or cherry bitters
Garnish - 1 or 2 cherries
Instructions
